Plot Summary:British army veteran Ed Stafford (33) takes off enough time to walk the entire length of the mighty Amazon from its Andes springs to its Atlantic mouth. Although a seasoned veteran, his mate Lyle Collier soon gives up. Ed soldiers on, despite innumerable challenges from wildlife and people, including native tribes and drug cartel scum, even after his Indian guide Ozwaldo deserts in the Red Zone. After having serious health problems nursed in a jungle infirmary, he again stumbles on against reason, suffering a total of two and a half years.
